Proper Hockey Stick Length

When you're standing with your skates on, your hockey stick should be in line with or anywhere from 1 to 2 inches above or below your chin. Forwards often use shorter sticks than defensemen. Shorter sticks allow for greater puck handling but may lead to a slight decrease in shot power. Longer sticks allow for greater reach and, in some cases, less effort is required of the player in order to generate enough stick flex for a powerful slap shot.
