Stick Technology

  • Axenic Technology
The word Axenic means "free from contamination." A new manufacturing process to seamlessly co-mold the shaft and blade of a Hockey stick.
Axenic technology removes the traditional joint and stress riser (or contaminant) from the slash zone and at the same time:
    • Removes unnecessary weight from tip section for improved balance and better feel
    • Increases durability and the feel of the stick
    • Allows shaft and blade to work as a unit for better feedback

  • SmartPly Technology
    High Pressure Manufacturing
    • Produces consistent wall thickness and limited resin loss for a more durable and consistent.
    • Carbon weave exterior for added strength, durability and resistance to cuts and abrasions
    • Inner layers used to control torsional stiffness for better feel and stick control
    • Material used for added impact strength and dimensional stability
    • Undirectional material controls stick stiffness/flex
  • SmartFlex Technology
Graduated flex profile for optimal performance and feel in all game situations.
    • Softer flex in the butt end section adds leverage/zip on wrist shots and increases feel for better stickhandling control, passing and pass reception.
    • Stiffer tip section allows for stability and accuracy when taking slap shots and face-offs
  • Active Bond Technology
Have you ever had that stick or blade that when you first get it has great pop and a super feel only to have it go dead after a short period of time? Active Bond Technology addresses that issue head-on.
This technology maintains blade stiffness over a longer period of time compared to other blades/sticks in the market place, which means you have the pop and great feel longer than products without it. This is accomplished by:
    • Incorporating a 100% carbon fiber rib that connects the front face and the back face of the blade
    • Allowing the front and back surfaces to move and work in the same manner during impact situations
    • Use of a unique foam core technology with high impact strength that won't break down over time

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value So far (after two skates) I really like this stick and I've used them all. I've played hockey a long time and with guys that have been paid to play so at this juncture I am well aware that I will never win a Stanley Cup thus I refuse to spend big $ on sticks. The stick is very light and was surprising stiff (85 flex), but midway through my first skate it broke in and now feels like an 85 and hasn't gotten rubbery... yet. Time will tell how good this stick really is, but at the current price point and after two uses it looks to be a solid buy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Good Stick I've been using this stick for a month and its pretty good. Good puck handling and really light. If you want a better shot, get a rbz. It has a pretty good shot, but not the best in the market. I was skeptical at first because I got my stick the day after this stick was released and I got it at the shop at San Jose. Theres a lot of chips and splinters above the blade for some reason, but besides that it is a pretty good stick. I hope my stick lasts longer than my rbz.... Overall, it performs like a top tier stick, but a tad cheaper.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great power from a light stick but no lasting power I got two of these sticks when they were on sale and after adjusting to the light weight I was able to fire off like a cannon. Only problem is that the first stick, the laminate separated on both sides of the blade very shortly after the warranty. Tried to talk to store manager about replacement and literally got the shaft. Second stick went well for about 3 months (only playing like 1-2 times per week) and then the blade snapped in half. For the money your better off buying a stick with a better reputation of durability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bang for the puck, I mean buck! I was concerned at first because it was so lightweight I assumed it wouldn't last long. This stick is amazingly strong! I have a faster snap shot and stronger wrist shot than any other stick I've used. I've never had a strong Slap Shot so sorry I can't give you a review on that. I will just close by saying that after the frustration of spending a couple hundred dollars on sticks that only last a handful of games, I will feel at ease purchasing another Gear stick since I've been able to get so much use out of my current one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Secondary Market Stick This is a very under rated hockey stick. While most players focus on Bauer, CCM, or Warrior for quality this stick is exceptionally good for the price. The 85 flex is perfect for the 180-200 lb player and the blade curves are almost identical to Bauer and Warrior curves. The weight is exactly as advertised. Durable stick and blade. Used for several practices and games with no chips or cracks. Paid $129 per stick. Ordered two with the expectation to get at least a full season out of them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light, Responsive Stick I've only been playing a couple years, but this stick is light and responsive — far above the other sticks I started with. It's made me a better player. I have never tried a truly high end stick, so I can't compare, but I am very pleased. I rated it 4 out of 5, simply because my limited experience keeps me from knowing if this is truly the best possible stick. But I like this (and the 125S I bought at the same time) stick and would not hesitate to recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but not durable I really liked Combat .52 Cal sticks for a couple of years. Once I finally ran out of them, I decided to try the Gear sticks since both sticks have three common trademark markings on them (SmartPly, Axenix, & Active Bond) and appeared they may essentially be the same stick. Performance-wise, this appears to be true. My problem was, the bottom of the blade cracked away after only 6-8 weeks (probably 16 games) which is very premature for what I became accustom to with the Combats. I assumed it was an anomaly and tried another Gear Fusion 150S and had almost the same result. Ultimately, I really liked the stick but just can't deal with spending that kind of money every 7 weeks. Perhaps if they add another 10-20 grams of weight to the blade so it would handle some fatigue I'd try one again but until then, I'll keep shopping for a new brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big power for lightweight My first reaction was wow this thing is reallllly light. You can feel the difference instantly in a game, me using an NXG before this. The biggest difference is how little effort it takes for the puck to rocket off the stick. Very sturdy stick, for 180 you most defeintly cannnnot beat it. Defeintly deserves to be mentioned with the RBZ's and APX2's.
