For years we've been waiting for Brian's to come out with a Senior Pro version of their Sub Zero line, and now it's finally here. New for 2016, Brian's introduces the Sub Zero 7.0 leg pads. If you're a goalie playing anywhere from an Intermediate to and Advanced level of hockey, approximately 1-3 times a week, then these are the pads for you!
The overall shape of this flat faced pad is a rigid "V-Shape" profile to help give better coverage and rebound predictability. The pad has a soft flex at the break below the knee, and a harder flex at the break above the knee. This flex structure gives the pad enough flex to bend in the butterfly, but not so much at the top of the pad so that it will "fold in" at the five hole at impact. The boot break uses super-soft boot construction which allows the goalie to deeply flex the pad at the ankle area for laterall movements, rebound control, etc.
The inside edge is made up of HD foams and a redesigned inside seam stitch line. The two features provide a stable platform when in the butterfly, complete pad seal to the ice, and a flat, slick sliding surface.
Like all Sub Zero pads, the 7.0 comes standard with Brian's innovative Smart Strap - a Y-shaped elastic and velcro attachment system that eliminates the need for conventional leather leg pad straps. This tried and true system, together with a leather boot strap and a double elastic knee cradle strap, saves nearly 1/4 of a pound of weight per pad when compared to pads with traditional strapping. The wide leg channel is perfect for goalies who like a more loose fit, and it helps the pad rotate precisely around the goalie's leg for a quick transition into the butterfly. The knee cradle has been made slightly wider to accomodate larger knee & thigh protectors, and the knee stack consists of one thick block, and one thin flap on the inside edge of the pad.
Finally, the Sub Zero 7.0 pad comes with the new Sub Zero 3 graphic. The best thing about his graphic, however, is that the colors on each pad are fully customizable. All Sub Zero 7.0 pads come in just an all white color way, but if you look more closely at the graphic you’ll see that each zone is slightly recessed to create custom graphic channels. These channels accept pre-cut, pre-glued custom color kits (sold separately) that allow the goalies to personalize the look of their pads quickly and easily. Once applied, these graphics sit flush to the rest of the pad face so that they won’t be ripped off after some use and abuse.
