The Dallas Stars franchise was relocated in 1993 from Bloomington, Minnesota where they were known as the North Stars and competed for 26 seasons. The North Stars were part of the NHL's 1967 expansion which included the California Seals (eventually merged with North Stars), Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues. Neal Broten, Brian Bellows, Dino Ciccarelli and Dave Gagner are the names that come to mind when the Minnesota North Stars are remembered. The North Stars made 2 Stanley Cup finals appearances, although they were defeated both times.
It wasn't until the after the franchise was relocated that the Stars would claim the Stanley Cup for the first time. In 1998-99, Mike Modano and Brett Hull led the Dallas Stars to their second consecutive President's trophy and eventually defeated the Buffalo Sabres in the Stanley Cup finals with a controversial goal by Hull in the 3rd overtime of game 6. The future of the team now rests on the shoulders of captain Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, Valeri Nichushkin, Alex Chiasson, young defenseman Trevor Daley and goaltender Kari Lehtonen.
