The Difference Between Runners and Blades

Although the terms runner and blade are often used interchangeably, or to describe one another, in actuality they're completely different pieces of equipment. Runners are the metal "blades" that make contact with the ice and are attached to the plastic holders on a pair of ice hockey skates. A blade is the lower portion of a hockey stick which is slightly curved and is used to shoot, pass and handle a hockey puck.

Blade = Part of a hockey stick   Runner = Part of an ice hockey skate
