The St. Louis Blues are one of 6 teams that were included in the 1967 NHL expansion. In each of their first three seasons, the Blues qualified for the playoffs and made it all the way to the Stanley Cup finals where they were swept in 4 games twice by the Montreal Canadiens and once by the Boston Bruins, the latter of which produced the infamous image of Bobby Orr flying through the air in front of goaltender Glenn Hall after scoring just 40 seconds into overtime to claim the Cup.

The history and tradition of the St. Louis Blues franchise is quite remarkable, bolstered by one of the most devoted fan bases in all of sports. The Blues are the last remaining team from the 1967 expansion that hasn't yet won the Stanley Cup. However, the Blues were able qualify for the playoffs in 25 consecutive seasons, a streak that was good enough for 3rd place all time behind the Boston Bruins with 29 and Chicago Blackhawks with 28. Following the 2004-05 lockout the Blues missed the playoffs for 3 consecutive seasons but returned in 2009 only to be eliminated by the Vancouver Canucks in the first round. In 2011-12 the Blues had a revitalizing season to finish 2nd in the Western Conference and tied for 2nd in the NHL in the regular season standings, going on to be eliminated in the second round by the eventual Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings.

After the retirements of Keith Tkachuk and Paul Kariya, the Blues have turned to the incredible young talent that has been developing within their program over the last several years. Alex Pietrangelo, TJ Oshie, Patrick Berglund, Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz and David Backes will lead the way as the Blues look to maintain their status among the elite teams of the NHL.
