For players who want a supportive, mid-to-high level skate with the look and feel of an elite level boot, the Vapor X 5.0 skate is a great choice. The price is right and the key features are all there, including thermoformable uppers (the boot can be baked), a comfortable and protective tongue, composite outsole, TUUK LS2 holders/runners (runners are replaceable), and a well-crafted, fully supportive, incredibly comfortable boot.
Vapor X 5.0 Upper Features
Quarter Package - Tech mesh with thermoformed X-rib pattern
Lightweight and durable, the X 5.0 quarter package is constructed with high quality tech mesh. It's slightly stiffer than the X 4.0 and a little softer than the boot of the X 6.0. The Vapor X-rib pattern provides power and explosiveness in each stride and eliminates the need for excess material, giving you a fully supportive, lightweight boot.
Lining Material - Quick-dry hydrophobic grip liner
The quick-dry hydrophobic grip liner is a feature that shouldn't be overlooked. Keeping your feet dry will allow you to get more out of your stride as you push off. The grip liner works to keep your feet locked in so that slippage doesn't occur and energy isn't lost as you stop and start.
Heel Support - Patented pro-integrated, anatomical heel/ankle support
Bauer's patented heel/ankle support is built to ensure that your feet will stay locked in and your ankles will be securely wrapped in the pocket of the boot.
Bauer's anaform foam is comfortable, light and responds well to baking so that you can achieve a comfortable, personalized fit.
Tongue Construction - Anatomical, 2-piece 48oz felt with metatarsal guard
Built to provide full coverage for the tender spots on the top of your foot, the 48 oz white felt tongue is hefty enough to take a beating yet flexible enough to allow full range of motion for the foot and ankle.
Footbed - FORM-FIT with stabilizer grip
Comfortable and lightweight, the Form-Fit footbed has grippy material strategically placed on various parts of the surface to keep your feet from slipping and sliding as you take tight corners and explode out of starts and stops.
Thermoformable - Full upper
Vapor X 5.0 Lower Features
Outsole - Fiber composite
Lightweight and durable, the fiber composite used in the construction of the outsole can handle quite a load of torque.
Blade Holder and Runner - TUUK Lightspeed 2 with TUUK LS2 steel runner
TUUK continues to set the industry standard for holders and runners.

perfect mid price point skate great for anyone looking for high end skate without the insane high end price tag

Bought these for my 12 year old son. He loved his 9K skates, however he thought the feel of the 5.0 was a much better fit and weight. I have seen some increase of his skating since moving to this skate.
Best value in performance
June 11, 2011
Got these for my son. He loves them. Fit is great and they are light and responsive. I would equate these to last years X40 model with the added benefit of the Tech Mesh boot instead of the nylon weave used in the X40. To me that is the big upgrade to performance. It makes the skate lighter and provides a more performance feel. It seems as though the tech mesh boot on these is not quite as stiff as the 7.0 but should hold up well for his weight. He will be skating 5 times a week so we will see. He likes the traditional felt tongue in these as well. I feel this skate provides the best value for a performace skate in the Vapor line up this year for advanced level travel team play. It has what is needed, Tech Mesh boot, good tongue to prevent lace bite and the top of line Tuuk holder with LS2 steel. The outsole is fine. I didn't feel the move up to the 6.0 was worth it for a couple features that I didn't feel added enough benefit.

D is Standard/Regular Width and EE is Wide. It sounds like you're looking for regular width, D.
