The Minnesota Wild is the second NHL team to call Minnesota home, preceded by the Minnesota North Stars who relocated to Dallas in 1993. The state of Minnesota has one of the strongest hockey cultures in America and was anxious, to say the least, to have another NHL team to call their own. Since their inaugural season, the Wild have qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs 3 times, advancing to the Western Conference Finals in 2003 where they were defeated by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks prior to the 2004-05 lockout.

In every season since 2003, with the exception of 2011-2012, the Wild have posted a winning record and they are quickly gaining recognition throughout the league as a competitive team with a solid work ethic and world class talent. With the acquisition of free agents Zach Parise and Ryan Suter in the 2012 off-season, and Dany Heatley in 2011, along with the development and leadership of star center Mikko Koivu, the Wild have a great core of players to carry their team into the future.
