The Edmonton Oilers were originally part of the WHA and played from 1973 to 1979 before joining the NHL in 1979. The Oilers are well known for their dominance in the 1980's, winning 5 Stanley Cups from 1983 to 1990. Wayne Gretzky began his career in Edmonton and set countless scoring records alongside teammates such as Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, Jari Kurri and Glenn Anderson. Goaltender Grant Fuhr was also an instrumental part of the Oilers success as they achieved Dynasty status during the 1980's.

With Gretzky’s departure in 1988, the Oilers began a new era. And although they went on to win the Cup without him in 1990, it would be their last. The Edmonton Oilers have appeared in the Stanley Cup finals one time since 1990, challenging the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006. In recent years, the team has begun the rebuilding process and ought to be back on track with the accelerated progression of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall leading the charge while Ben Scrivens mans the cage.
