The Vapor X 4.0 skates are a great fit for mid-level skaters who want to step into a boot with a great blend of comfort and support without being overwhelmed by the stiffness of higher level skates. Right out of the box, the X 4.0 skates provide a very comfortable fit and shouldn't take more than a few ice times to break in and fully adjust to the curves of your feet. If you're taking that leap from beginner to intermediate level hockey (i.e. House to B league), you'll be very pleased with the performance and construction quality of the boot.
The quarters are built with enough stiffness to give you support on tight turns without sacrificing your need for a comfortable all-around fit.
Lining Material - Hydrophobic microfiber
Moisture wicking and smooth, the hydrophobic microfiber liner does its job well, keeping your feet dry and secure in the boot.
Heel Support - Patented integrated, anatomical heel/ankle support
Bauer's patented boot construction allows them to use less material in the boot to give you a lightweight skate with plenty of support in all of the key areas.
Ankle Padding - Anaform foam ankle pads
Comfort and support are perfectly coupled here with Bauer's anaform foam ankle pads.
Tongue Construction - Anatomical, 2-piece 40 oz. felt with metatarsal guard
Built for mid-level protection and plenty of comfort, the 40 oz white felt tongue is built with the needs of an intermediate level player in mind.
Footbed - FORM-FIT with stabilizer grip
Like the footbed of the X 5.0 skates, the Form-Fit footbed will help keep your feet from slipping out of place in the boot as you stop, start and pivot.
Vapor X 4.0 Lower Features
Outsole - Lightweight, Pro-8 beveled TPU
Not too stiff, not too flimsy. The Pro-8 Beveled TPU outsole is sturdy enough to handle a fair amount of weight and soft enough to keep mid-level skaters from struggling to power through sharp turns and quick stops.
Blade Holder and Runner - TUUK Lightspeed 2 with TUUK super stainless steel runner
A key feature for skates at this pricepoint; Bauer's ever-popular TUUK LS2 Holder with Super Stainless Steel Runners.

SENIOR Hockey Skates Senior hockey skates are sized to fit adults and full grown teenagers with a Men's US shoe size of 7 or greater.
JUNIOR Hockey Skates Junior hockey skates are sized to fit kids in the range of approximately 7 to 13 years old with a US shoe size of 2 to 6.5.
YOUTH Hockey Skates Youth hockey skates are sized to fit toddlers and young children in the age range of approximately 2 to 7 years old with a US youth shoe size of 7 to 1.5.
*Female Skaters* The difference between men's shoes and women's shoes is 1.5 to 2 sizes. So, if you wear size 9 women's shoes, that translates to a men's size 7.5 or 7.0, which would put you in a size 6 senior hockey skate. More simply put, go 3 sizes down from your women's shoe size in order to find your hockey skate size.

Nice skate...
January 22, 2013
Obviously, not a top end skate, but for the money they're a tremendous value. I only play one night/week in a men's league, but they were comfortable enough to wear out of the box after being baked and only getting more comfortable. I'd highly suggest them to anyone looking for a great skate w/o the top end price tag.

Great Skate
February 10, 2012
These replaced a 20 year old pair of CCM 352's, and it is like night and day! I had them, "baked," and it made a big difference, especially on my ankles. I would have given this skate 5 stars, but I think the sole is a little lacking and had to replace them with something better, but for the money you would have a hard time beating them!

X4.0 Break in
December 28, 2011
Skated on my X4.0 skates new and they were very comfortable out of the box. Baked them at 170 degrees for 7minutes, wore then laced tight for 20 mins (did one at a time). Then you relace them and waited about 12 hrs and they were PERFECT on the ice! ! Wow is all I can say. One important note: I wear a 10.5D and I went to a store to try them on and size then. Bauer says 1.5 sizes smaller than you shoe size would of had me in pain. I went 1 size in the boot to a 9.5 and it was just right. Happy Camper to say the least ! ! ! ! !

Love them
December 1, 2011
I am a beginner level hockey player. I used rentals before these, and these skates are so nice that I look forward to skating. I remember the thought that they may feel like there is not very much padding at first, but within a couple of days they felt great. Six weeks later, I have excellent feel and control. I am 6'4" and do not 'feel' taller; it makes sense, since I am in my first really nice pair of skates. I highly recommend these skates!

these skates have great ankle support and perform great. if you get hit with the puck in the ankle the tongue can block it. the skates keep your feet warm too. highly recomend them

i bought and have this skate size 10D, everything fits great except the toe box, do i need a wider skate if just the toe box hurts? Can i do i need to bake them?
By Jeremiah at HockeyGiant.com on May 16, 2013
Answer:
Unfortunately, baking probably won't help because the toe cap isn't thermo-formable. If the toe box is too narrow, you can try punching the boots out in the area right before the plastic cap, which can be done at most local hockey shops. If that doesn't fix the problem then your best option is to switch over to EE (wide) skates. That being said, if you haven't already used your skates, I'd recommend exchanging them for EE's right away instead of trying to "fix" them.
