Avision Ahead Senior Hockey Shield/Cage Combo

It's true the NCAA rules committee polled players and 70% said that they would abandon the full cage for a half shield. Can you blame them? The vision of wire cages is obstructive and they're just plain ugly. The AVISION AHEAD Mask is like playing hockey with a half mask only you get to keep your teeth and your smile.

The Avision mask gives a player a crystal clear, tough as nails look at the game up ice or god-forbid if they look down for the puck at their feet it might be the last crystal clear view they see before the lights in the ceiling of the rink. The cage frame is closer to your face than the competition so you enjoy the protection without seeing the game through the bars. The cage frame is just 5.2 oz. So light you barely know it's there till you get rocked in the jaw and you're okay.

Adult players realize that they too want to stay the good looking guys and gals they think they are on the ice or in their office cube...and dental visits are not free.

Amazing Visor
January 23, 2014
I received the visor for Christmas & I wish I would have received it sooner. This thing is amazingly clear, scratch resistant and flat out DOES NOT fog up! I took a stick blade to the visor, no discernible damage or scratching! The weight appears no better or worse than other similar visors. It is a little bulkier than other full shields, but my field of view; specifically my peripheral vision is wide open; couple that with the fact you can replace just the visor portion when the time comes, makes this visor combo well worth the money.
Pros:
This thing is amazingly clear, scratch resistant, DOES NOT fog up, ability to replace just the visor.

Truly Never Fogs
November 14, 2013
I have used Intech and then Bauer face shields. Always start to fog after a several uses. I've been using my Avision helmet for 18 months and it never fogs.
Cons:
It is a little tight or closer to the chin than the Bauer shield.

Excellent Product
July 16, 2013
I just switched to this shield combo after many years of wearing a full cage. After my first game I noticed a huge improvement in my field of vision and a significant reduction in weight. I could not be happier with this product. There was no problem with fogging during play although I did notice there was a reduction in airflow around my face and head. I cannot see me returning to a cage after experiencing this shield.
Pros:
Improved field of vision, light weight, no fogging.
Cons:
Reduced air flow around head and face.

First game impression....
June 10, 2013
The way hockey gear is marketed I was a skeptical in what I was reading about the Avisian Ahead hockey shield but I decided to give it a go. I have average skill sets and speed for an beer league player and I first started off with an cage 10 years ago and then changed over to the half cage / half visor Itech FX50, and then back to a cage - the Bauer Re Akt titanium cage (for lightness and the advertised Tru Vision improved visibility factor). I didn't like how the design of the FX 50 half cage rounded up to the nose area as I found this to interfere with my vision when I looked down t my skates for the puck. The Bauer Titanium cage is very light but the TruVision design did not even come close to improving my look down vision. I played with the AA face mask it for the first time last night at Britannia ice rink in Vancouver, it was 15C (59F) outside, not too warm, not too cold, and I must say I was quite impressed. As advertised the visor did not fog at all and the field of view was noticeably better, and unlike the FX50, looking down there is no rise in the nose area because the shield is cut straight across. I immediately noticed that my peripheral vision was much better than the FX50 and I felt a greater sense of 'space'. Looking down it was easier to find the puck in my skates. For me, these two visual experiences were the best part of the AA face mask. There is about a 1/4" gap between the shield and the rim of the helmet to provide greater ventilation and adding to the greater sense of space. If you are looking for a 'visor only' field of view experience with protection to your mouth and jaw area then I highly recommend you give this product a try. The price point is fair, and the replacement visor cost are really reasonable at $35. I use a size medium Easton E600 helmet and I ordered a size large 'clear' adult face mask. Packaging included clear instructions, steel J-clips and screws. Installation was completed in a few minutes. The fit was right on, no rubbing issue along the side of helmet, however, I changed out the stock chin pad and strapping with the one from my Itech FX50 because the included strap were not long enough and the chin cup was not a good fit.
Pros:
Excellent field of view. Very good 'look down' view to your skates, noticeably better than the FX50. Excellent anti-fogging performance. Very light - comparable in weight to the Bauer Re-Akt titanium cage.
Cons:
Chin cup fit felt narrow and inadequate. Chin cup strap was about two inches too short.

Best visor EVER!!!

Switched out all of my Bauer Recons after trying the Avision visor. It truly never fogs (requires an occasional toweling off of moisture from condensation), is super light weight and very easy to assemble.

By Jeremiah at HockeyGiant.com on June 11, 2013

Yes, per the description:
